Insulating plaster in Hamburg – for interior walls and facades

Insulating plaster combines render and thermal protection in one layer. It follows uneven masonry, stays vapour-permeable and works where board systems don't fit – in older buildings, on articulated facades or as interior insulation. DALGA BAU applies insulating plaster inside and out in Hamburg and the surrounding area.

When insulating plaster makes sense

  • Older and existing facades whose appearance should largely be preserved
  • Uneven or mixed masonry where insulation boards are hard to fix
  • Interior insulation of external walls, e.g. where the facade may not be altered
  • Reveals, plinths and junctions with little space
  • Better thermal protection and warmer wall surfaces

Insulating plaster outside

On the facade, insulating plaster is machine-applied in a thicker layer and then protected with reinforcement and a finishing render. The build-up – substrate preparation, layer thickness, reinforcement and finish – follows the manufacturer's system and the condition of the masonry.

Per centimetre it insulates less than an ETICS, but it is jointless, mineral and follows any wall shape. We advise which system suits your building.

Insulating plaster inside

Inside, insulating plaster is mainly used to insulate external walls from the inside and raise wall surface temperatures. Capillary-active mineral plasters can absorb and release moisture. A building-physics check of the wall and clean junctions to ceilings, windows and adjoining walls are essential. More on plaster types under Interior plaster.

Process

  1. Assess the substrate – load-bearing capacity, moisture and evenness
  2. Prepare – clean, remove old render, bonding coat or spatter dash
  3. Apply insulating plaster – by machine, in the specified thickness and with drying times
  4. Reinforcement and finish – weather protection outside, smooth or textured surface inside
  5. Paint – vapour-permeable, e.g. silicate paint, see Facade painting

Frequently asked questions

Insulating plaster or ETICS – which is better?

ETICS insulates much better per centimetre and is usually the first choice for higher thermal requirements. Insulating plaster shows its strengths on uneven masonry, articulated period facades, reveals and interior insulation. The right solution depends on the building, requirements and goal.

Is insulating plaster suitable for interior insulation?

Yes. Capillary-active mineral insulating plasters are often used to insulate external walls from the inside. The wall should be assessed in terms of building physics beforehand so that no condensation forms in the construction.
