Exterior render and cement render in Hamburg

Exterior render protects masonry from the weather and shapes a building’s appearance. DALGA BAU applies exterior and cement render for new build and existing buildings – to DIN standards in all techniques.

Scope of work

  • Exterior render on masonry
  • Cement and lime-cement render
  • Plinth render in the splash zone
  • Exterior renovation render for damp and salt damage
  • Insulating render to improve thermal protection
  • Render repair for cracks and spalling
  • Facade mouldings, window surrounds, rustication and decorative elements
  • Finishing render in various textures, e.g. scraped or rubbed finish

Render types at a glance

Exterior renders differ mainly in their binder – and therefore in strength, moisture behaviour and appearance. The right render depends on the substrate, the exposure and the desired look; we advise on site.

  • Lime-cement render – the standard on masonry: strong, weather-resistant and breathable, as base coat and finish
  • Cement render – especially hard and water-resistant, for plinths and the splash zone
  • Lime render – soft and highly breathable, compatible with historic masonry in older buildings
  • Exterior renovation render – for damp, salt-laden facades and plinths: salts are stored in the pore structure, moisture can evaporate and the surface stays dry and intact
  • Insulating render – lightweight render with insulating aggregates; improves thermal protection where ETICS is not possible, e.g. on articulated period facades
  • Silicate and silicone resin render – thin finishing renders: silicate is mineral and breathable, silicone resin is water-repellent and resists dirt

Base coat and finishing render

Exterior render is usually applied in two coats: the base coat evens out irregularities and forms the load-bearing layer, while the finishing render provides texture and weather protection. In the plinth zone, particularly durable cement or lime-cement renders are used.

Application

Exterior render is applied in suitable weather – without frost, rain or strong sun during application and curing. We plan the works accordingly and protect fresh surfaces.

Frequently asked questions

When can exterior render be applied?

As a rule, only at air and substrate temperatures above +5 °C, with no frost, rain or strong sunshine during application and curing. Exact limits are given in the manufacturer’s instructions.

Do I have to insulate my facade under the GEG?

There is no general obligation. However, if the render on more than 10 % of a facade’s area is renewed, the GEG sets minimum requirements for the thermal insulation of the external wall (U-value 0.24 W/(m²K)). Exemptions are possible in individual cases.
