Facade mouldings and decorative elements in Hamburg
Cornices, window surrounds, rustication and decorative plaster give a facade structure and character. DALGA BAU installs mouldings and decorative elements in new builds, on ETICS and on existing buildings – matched to render and paint.
Scope of work
- Facade mouldings and cornices – dividing storeys and finishing the top of the facade
- Window and door surrounds
- Rustication – ashlar look, e.g. on the ground floor or building corners
- Decorative elements – such as arches, brackets and pilasters
- Decorative and textured plaster – designed plaster surfaces inside and out
Mouldings on ETICS and masonry
Facade mouldings usually consist of a lightweight core with a mineral coating. They are bonded according to the manufacturer’s and system specifications and, where intended, additionally fixed mechanically; they are then coated and painted together with the facade.
On ETICS, mouldings are integrated into the system. Insulation and design stay technically consistent – and when an older building is renovated, the original facade structure can be recreated or reinterpreted, depending on the ETICS, fire protection and, where applicable, heritage protection.
From our references
- Outlet Center Neumünster – decorative elements with facade mouldings and rustication, exterior render, ETICS with render and brick slips
- Elbphilharmonie Hamburg – around 9,000 m² of decorative plaster, interior plastering and texture work
Process
- Agree the design – profile shapes from drawings, the existing building or a template
- Define substrate and fixing
- Install mouldings – form joints, connections and drip edges to the system and weathertight
- Finish surfaces – coat, embed or render up to them depending on the moulding system
- Paint in a matched facade system
Frequently asked questions
Can mouldings be added to existing facades?
Yes, provided the substrate is sound. During renovation or new insulation, cornices and window surrounds can be recreated or redesigned – for example to preserve the character of an older building.
What are facade mouldings made of?
Usually a lightweight core with a mineral coating; more robust versions exist for exposed areas. The right moulding depends on position, size and facade system.
